Dr. Lokesh Tharani
Associate Professor, Rajasthan Technical University, Kota
Dr. Lokesh Tharani is Associate Professor, Rajasthan Technical University, Kota. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Electronics & Communication Engineering from Govt. Engineering College, Kota, and his M.Tech. and PhD in the area of Digital Communication from MNIT, Jaipur. His specialization includes Mobile Communication, Multiuser Detection, Wireless Communication, CDMA Communication, Optical Communication and Digital Communication. He has published around 70 research papers in international journals and conferences. He has gained more than 20 years of research and teaching experience by serving in various reputed institutes. He has guided around 6 PhD scholars and more than 20 M.Tech. scholars. He is Life member of the Institutions of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) New Delhi, as a Corporate Member.
Dr Darryl Naidoo is a Principal Researcher at the CSIR National Laser Centre (NLC). Darryl joined the NLC on an M.Sc. studentship in 2009 and went on to complete a PhD in Physics in 2015 from the University of Stellenbosch while on a PhD studentship at the NLC. To date his research has resulted in over 40 peer-reviewed publications with highlights in Nature Photonics and Optical. His research focus is on Laser Beam Shaping, higher-order transverse mode selection and bulk solid-state lasers. His current research is aimed at further understanding light-matter interaction through laser beam shaping. He explores the shaping of laser light of medium (100W – 500W) to high power (500W – 5kW) systems via solid- state resonators, solid-state bulk amplifiers and external approaches with fiber lasers. He has been awarded a SPIE scholarship, the 2012 CSIR Excellence Award for ‘Student Award’ and the 2014 CSIR Excellence Award for ‘Outstanding Contribution by a Team Award’. In 2019, he was awarded a $ 300 000 National Research Foundation Equipment Grant and the Silver Medal from the South African Institute of Physics (SAIP). He has been invited to spend time in overseas laboratories such as the Université de Caen, France and the Friedrich-Schiller- Universität Jena, Germany. Currently, he leads the Laser Beam Shaping research area at the NLC and is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of the Witwatersrand. He is an OSA Fundamental Laser Sciences committee member (Social Media Officer), International conference committee member for Photonics Instrumentation Engineering at SPIE Photonics West, SAIP committee member (Workshops) and an OSA Member Engagement & Development Committee Member.
